In order to make eHealth developments sustainable, IICD started in 2014 with the establishment of Africa eHealth Solutions (Africa eHealth) as a social impact driven business. It has to become a business, because a non-governmental organization is not sustainable. Unfortunately, IICD had to stop, because the health sector was eliminated from the Dutch development policy, only sexual and reproductive health was maintained with an emphasis on lobbying. Africa eHealth has made a restart. 2015 and 2016 were difficult years, but the support for most hospitals could be continued. From 2017, Africa eHealth is being supported by VitalHealth Software as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program.
Africa eHealth provides advisory services and ICT solutions for healthcare in Africa. AfyaPro is the flagship of Africa eHealth. It was innovative software – developed in Tanzania and supported most functions of an African hospital. It is much appreciated for its good fit with reality. Now the software is technically outdated. AfyaPro’s functionalities have been transferred to the VitalHealth premium platform, an innovative and leading USA-NL eHealth software developer. This combination called AfyaPro 2.0 Connected Care is a great leap forward. It combines both worlds and has become a powerful and complete tool to support the health professional and hospitals in Africa.
